Pros:                                                    Cons:

+Easy to use controls                         – Really sticky TPR

+ Multiple Functions                          – Awkward clitoral attachment

                                                                        – Overpriced

The Wild Orchid is a dual stimulator from California Exotics Novelties which means it is designed to stimulate both vaginally and clitorally at the same time. Dual stimulation vibes can also be used anally as the clitoral arm will function as an anchor keeping the toy firmly outside of the body. Despite this, due to the material of this toy and it’s rotating function I would not recommend this for anal use as it would not be very sanitary or pleasurable.

IMG_6339The body of the toy is made up of TPR while the controls and battery compartment is made of ABS plastic. The TPR is slightly porous and will not last forever, a condom is recommended for sharing as it will harbor bacteria in the pores of the material. It also has a faint smell but no taste. It is very sticky with a lot of drag so it must be cleaned thoroughly with warm soap and water both before and after use and dried with a paper towel or other cloth that will not leave fibers, this thing collects lint like a machine. When handled the material is very soft and pliable; squishing and stretching without much force, it feels almost like a jelly at times. Although I am not often a fan of TPR, I do quite like the color of this one. It is totally clear with the hot pink ABS plastic shining through and creating a really pretty color scheme. Despite the aforementioned flexibility, there is a firm shaft up the center of the toy that keeps the insertable portion from bending, the clit portion is totally flexible except for the area encompassed by the bullet.

Measurements

I would say the toy is moderately sized, and may be a bit intimidating for new users simply because of the design. The shaft is just over 5 inches in length and around 4.25 inches in circumference. Remember, 4.5 inches of this material is going to feel very different (and much smaller) than 4.25 inches of glass or another firmer material. While the material look and feel may not be realistic, the design is very phallic featuring a very pronounced head. The shape of the head is actually a bit odd, it looks elongated, almost like a caricature of a penis.

The clitoral arm is about 3.5 inches long with a tip in the shape of a triangle, with the base being about 1.5 inches and each side about 2 inches. The way the clitoral IMG_6336arm naturally sits it is approximately 1.5 inches away from the shaft but it is extremely flexible and easily flexed back as much as you’d like. The triangle forms a cup of sorts and inside are three little nubs designed to stimulate the clitoris, If you have ever had a thing for the three breasted hooker in Total Recall this is your chance to fulfill that fantasy. In use the triangular cup did create some suction and attach to my skin, the shape was so large that it provided minimal suction and attached more to my entire labia than to just my clitoris, which dispersed and muddled the sensation. While I expected/hoped the suction might feel like a clit pump would, instead it didn’t feel like much of anything. I didn’t notice any suction at all until I tried to move it. In addition the arm was far to long for me and felt awkward trying to line it up to my clit when it felt more like it should be reaching my belly button! While the vibrations can be felt in this area if you are testing it with your hand, once it is placed on your clitoris they are almost non-existent. I like rumbly vibrations that penetrate the skin deeply on a broad surface that I can grind against; these vibrations on the other hand are very buzzy and barely provide any pressure on the body, I suppose they could be used to create a teasing sensation on some but I did not find them stimulating at all.

While the clitoral shaft is vibrating (ish) the shaft is rotating in an attempt to stimulate the vaginal walls. The motors that control the rotation are moderately powerful and it does require quite a bit of force to stop the rotation. Not having used many rotating toys (and never having found one I liked) I was pretty keen to try another one, unfortunately I was once again let down. The sensation of the rotation wasn’t very impressive, and no matter how much I tried to focus on the sensations I couldn’t get past the fact that it sounded like there was a lawn mower between my thighs. Really, it’s that bad. This is one of the loudest toys I own and the sound was so distracting that it made the toy unusable for me.

There are also three functions which combine the vibration in the clitoral arm and the rotation of the shaft. The first function is steady vibration and counter-clockwise vibration, the second has an on/off/on/off vibration pattern to match the shaft’s rotation: one and a half circles clockwise and another one and a half counter-clockwise. Finally the third function is the same as the second except it only rotates about two-thirds of the way around so the vibration is faster. It also features multiple speeds of constant vibration in both the shaft and the clitoral arm. I prefer the steady speeds to the functions because the I feel like the drop from vibrations to none is too drastic for me, I often don’t like patterns that have moments of no vibration, I prefer roller coaster type patterns if any at all.

The clitoral IMG_6333arm and the rotation are controlled separately by the control panel in the base. This is nothing that we haven’t seen a thousand times before, one set of up/down buttons control the eight speeds of rotation while the other set controls the eight strengths of vibrations. The (F) button controls the functions of which there are three. The speeds of the functions are standard, it doesn’t matter what speed the toy is set for before you switch to functions.  The buttons must be pushed firmly to IMG_6341activate, not so firmly that it is annoying, but they also cannot be turned on accidentally, there is no travel lock but I don’t feel one is needed, it won’t be turned on easily. There is a little red LED above each button that lights up to demonstrate when the button has been activated but unfortunately there is nothing to indicate when you have reached maximum speed for vibrations/rotations.

The toy is powered by three AA batteries that slip easily into a plastic cradle which then slips into the base of the toy. The twist on cap that fits on the base features an o-ring creating a seal that is at least water-resistant, if not totally waterproof. I am not entirely sure that this will protect the toy from being submerged though so I would recommend treating it as only splash proof.

I had a lot of hope for this one, I thought the suction would be interesting and stimulating, similar to a clit pump or maybe oral sex, and I hoped that the rotation would be able to stimulate my G-spot and the recently talked about PS-Spot with each circle. Unfortunately it turned out to be quite the let down. I barely was able to notice the suction and I didn’t feel the stimulating nubs at all. The rotation wasn’t overwhelmingly powerful but it might have been stimulating if I wasn’t distracted by the incessant whirring between my thighs as if it were trying to take flight. On top of that the material is not entirely body safe and cannot be sanitized. With all of this in mind I cannot recommend this toy, but if you would like to ignore me you can get it at Amazon.

About Bex

Bex talks about sex, a lot, and feels this is the only way to reduce the stigma and lack of education surrounding it. When they’re not trying to save the world, talking about sex to strangers, typing frantically, or sticking things in various holes they are usually indulging the other facets of their geekery.
